you are a good people and i bring you a gift …you must use it with care excerpt from pauline peters' dryland: in my village: fiery spirits: canadian writers of african descent edited by ayanna black. walk good with the ancestors, ayanna. you have left us so much to ponder and to use as sunshine to help us grow.
wishing love, strength and courage to our peoples in ayiti. read below on how to help.
words, words, words... the 2nd annual mikey smith raw works festival, held in december 2009 was a resounding success!
as if guided by the ancestors, and the invisible presence of the late jamaican dub poet, mikey smith, the adt! artists-in-residence brought forth wombanifestations of humanity through their individual works-in-progress. the works were raw and honest and simply beautiful!
congratulations to cassandra walker, julie tesolin, kalmplex, kemba king and natasha morris, and amanda parris for digging deep and for sharing their biomyth-monodramas with the very appreciative and engaged villagers that came to hear and feel their words on december 17th, 18th and 19th - some folks even attended more than once!
for all of you who were moved by the festival and wanted to continue to support us, we have decided to host a monthly fundraiser entitled dubnite rent session. please read below for more details. as well we will be having a bi-weekly open mic, all to ensure that we can see the 2010 season to its completion. please come out to both.
remember our next artist-in-residence festival comes at the end of april/beginning of may. come out and see how the residents have grown, when they take to the stage to perform their monodramas at sister insider: the audre lorde black womben's media and visual arts festival.
walk good and in solidarity
